China-aided PV Power Station Project in CAR Completes Full Technical Service Cycle

On August 24 local time, China and the Central African Republic (CAR) jointly signed the ‘Certificate of Expiry of Long-term Technical Service’ in Bangui, marking the successful completion of the full technical service cycle of the China-aided Photovoltaic Power Station Project in the CAR (Sakai Photovoltaic Power Station) — a key new energy livelihood project assisted by the Chinese government. The on-site team of Energy China TEPC has stood firm for four years, bringing the first photovoltaic power station in the CAR to a successful conclusion.

The project, an important consensus reached by the two heads of state during the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), has been listed as a flagship project of bilateral cooperation and the largest livelihood project in the CAR. Located in Bimbo, west of Bangui, the project covers approximately 160,000 square meters, with over 30,000 PV modules arranged in orderly rows, a total installed capacity of 15 MW, and is equipped with a 63 kV step-up substation, a 5 MWh energy storage system, and supporting power transmission and transformation lines. Construction began in April 2021, and the station was grid-connected and commenced power generation in June 2022. Since commissioning, it has met approximately 30% of Bangui's electricity demand, effectively alleviating the severe power shortage in the CAR.
