Largest PV Project by Chinese-funded enterprises in Central Asia Fully Connected to Grid

The 1 GW photovoltaic (PV) project in Uzbekistan, the largest PV project by Chinese-funded enterprises in Central Asia, was fully connected to the power grid on June 28, local time.

The project, invested by China Energy Construction Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., comprises two PV plants, each with 500 MW of capacity, in the Bukhara and Kashkadarya regions of Uzbekistan.

The Kashkadarya facility was jointly constructed by CEEC Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. (TEPC) and CPECC Northeast Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. The Bukhara facility was contracted and built by China Energy Construction Group Co., Ltd. and designed by CEEC Xinjiang Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd.

It is the first major new energy project invested by Chinese-funded enterprises in Central Asia since the China-Central Asia Summit was held in May 2023.

During construction, CEEC leveraged its integrated advantages, formulated science-based construction plans, enhanced project management and resource allocation, and ensured safety and quality, which contributed to the early completion of the project.

Once fully operational, the project is expected to create about 1,600 jobs and generate around 2.4 billion kWh of electricity annually, potentially reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2.4 million tons per year, equivalent to saving 520 million cubic meters of natural gas. Through the project, CEEC will contribute to Uzbekistan's economic and social development.

Looking ahead, CEEC will continue leveraging its complete-industrial-chain edge and investment and financing experience in energy, power and infrastructure sectors, in a bid to contribute more of its expertise, solutions and strength to promote a green, efficient, safe, and sustainable transformation of Uzbekistan's power system.
